Was (wer) ist read-only memory - definition

Read-only memory
  • An EPROM
NON-VOLATILE MEMORY USED IN COMPUTERS AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES; CLASS OF STORAGE MEDIUM USED IN COMPUTERS AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Read only memory; READ ONLY MEMORY; Read only Memory; Read-only storage; Mask ROM; EAROM; Read-Only Memory; Read-Only memory; Read Only memory; Read-only Memory; Mask rom; Masked ROM; MROM; Read Only Memory; ROM; Program Memory; Charged Capacitor Read-Only Storage; CCROS; Charged capacitor read-only storage; Balanced capacitor read-only storage; ROM chip; ROM (memory); ROM memory; Mask read-only memory
Read-only memory (ROM) is a type of non-volatile memory used in computers and other electronic devices. Data stored in ROM cannot be electronically modified after the manufacture of the memory device.

<storage> (MROM) A kind of ROM in which the memory contents are determined by one of the masks used to manufacture the integrated circuit. MROM can give high storage density (bits per millimeter squared) making it a cheap solution for high volume applications. [Other ROM types?] (1995-04-22)

<storage> (ROM) A type of data storage device which is manufactured with fixed contents. In its most general sense, the term might be used for any storage system whose contents cannot be altered, such as a gramophone record or a printed book; however, the term is most often applied to semiconductor integrated circuit memories, of which there are several types, and CD-ROM. ROM is inherently non-volatile storage - it retains its contents even when the power is switched off, in contrast to RAM. ROM is often used to hold programs for embedded systems since these usually have a fixed purpose. ROM is also used for storage of the lowest level bootstrap software (firmware) in a computer.
