What (who) is cylindrical shape - definition

MAP PROJECTION
Miller projection; Miller cylindrical; Miller Cylindrical; World Miller Cylindrical; Miller cylindrical map projection
  • A Miller projection of the [[Earth]].
  • Miller projection with 1,000 km indicatrices of distortion.

Shape moiré
TYPE OF MOIRÉ PATTERNS
Band moiré; Shape moire; Band moire
Shape moiré is one type of moiré patterns demonstrating the phenomenon of moiré magnification. 1D shape moiré is the particular simplified case of 2D shape moiré.
Magnetic shape-memory alloy
  • Magnetic shape memory working principle. Note that the deformation kink shown in the figure is only for illustration purposes, while in actual materials the kink is < 4 °.
TYPE OF SHAPE MEMORY MATERIAL WHICH RESPONDS TO MAGNETIC FIELDS
Magnetic shape memory; Ferromagnetic shape-memory alloy
Magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs), also called ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMA), are particular shape memory alloys which produce forces and deformations in response to a magnetic field. The thermal shape memory effect has been obtained in these materials, too.
Cylindrical drum
CLASS OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Cylindrical drums are a category of drum instruments that include a wide range of implementations, including the bass drum and the Iranian dohol. Cylindrical drums are generally two-headed and straight-sided, and sometimes use a buzzing, percussive string.

Miller cylindrical projection

The Miller cylindrical projection is a modified Mercator projection, proposed by Osborn Maitland Miller in 1942. The latitude is scaled by a factor of 45, projected according to Mercator, and then the result is multiplied by 54 to retain scale along the equator. Hence:

or inversely,

where λ is the longitude from the central meridian of the projection, and φ is the latitude. Meridians are thus about 0.733 the length of the equator.

In GIS applications, this projection is known as: "ESRI:54003 – World Miller Cylindrical".

Compact Miller projection is similar to Miller but spacing between parallels stops growing after 55 degrees.

Examples of use of cylindrical shape
1. Unlike the cylindrical shape of a traditional blimp, a Stratellite has a broad, tapered nose like a shark.
2. When the lamb is ready, remove the string, form into a cylindrical shape using foil and place in the refrigerator. 1,200g of meat is for six portions.
