What (who) is multipoint$503448$ - definition

SECTION OF A COMPUTER NETWORK IN WHICH ALL NODES CAN BROADCAST TO EACH OTHER
MultiPoint-to-MultiPoint

Point-to-multipoint communication
  • A point-to-multipoint radio base station manufactured by CableFree installed for a [[wireless internet service provider]] in [[Rotterdam]]. The station has four radio interfaces each connected to a separate [[sector antenna]], each providing 90 degrees coverage. Within 20 km of this base station, [[customer-premises equipment]] with high gain directional antennas are installed on sites which can then connect to the base station to receive broadband data connections of typically 10–200 Mbit/s capacity.
COMMUNICATION WHICH IS ACCOMPLISHED VIA A DISTINCT TYPE OF ONE-TO-MANY CONNECTION
PTMP; Point to multipoint; Point-to-multipoint; P2MP; Point-to-multipoint communication (telecommunications); Point-to-Multipoint; Rooted-MultiPoint; Point-to-multipoint link
In telecommunications, point-to-multipoint communication (P2MP, PTMP or PMP) is communication which is accomplished via a distinct type of one-to-many connection, providing multiple paths from a single location to multiple locations.
Multipoint ground
Multipoint Ground
A multipoint ground is an alternate type of electrical installation that attempts to solve the ground loop and mains hum problem by creating many alternate paths for electrical energy to find its way back to ground. The distinguishing characteristic of a multipoint ground is the use of many interconnected grounding conductors into a loose grid configuration.
Local Multipoint Distribution Service
BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS TECHNOLOGY
Local Multipoint Distribution Service; WiBAS
Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) is a broadband wireless access technology originally designed for digital television transmission (DTV). It was conceived as a fixed wireless, point-to-multipoint technology for utilization in the last mile.

Broadcast domain

A broadcast domain is a logical division of a computer network, in which all nodes can reach each other by broadcast at the data link layer. A broadcast domain can be within the same LAN segment or it can be bridged to other LAN segments.

In terms of current popular technologies, any computer connected to the same Ethernet repeater or switch is a member of the same broadcast domain. Further, any computer connected to the same set of interconnected switches/repeaters is a member of the same broadcast domain. Routers and other higher-layer devices form boundaries between broadcast domains.

The notion of broadcast domain should be contrasted with that of collision domain, which would be all nodes on the same set of inter-connected repeaters, divided by switches and learning bridges. Collision domains are generally smaller than, and contained within, broadcast domains.

While some data-link-layer devices are able to divide the collision domains, broadcast domains are only divided by layer 3 network devices such as routers or layer 3 switches. Separating VLANs divides broadcast domains as well.
