Frequent urination

Frequent urination, or urinary frequency (sometimes called pollakiuria), is the need to urinate more often than usual. Diuretics are medications that increase urinary frequency. Nocturia is the need of frequent urination at night. The most common cause of this condition for women and children is a urinary tract infection. The most common cause of urinary frequency in older men is an enlarged prostate.

Frequent urination is strongly associated with frequent incidents of urinary urgency, which is the sudden need to urinate. It is often, though not necessarily, associated with urinary incontinence and polyuria (large total volume of urine). However, in other cases, urinary frequency involves only normal volumes of urine overall.

Examples of use of frequent urination
1. Although caffeine is a mild diuretic (causing frequent urination), may block calcium absorption in women, and could prove harmful to pregnant women, not everyone is persuaded that it‘s dangerous.
2. About half of men who develop enlarged prostates will have symptoms that include more frequent urination, urinary tract infections, the inability to completely empty the bladder, and, in severe cases, damage to the bladder and kidneys.
3. Individuals with type 2 diabetes most often may be characterized as÷ – Being insulin resistant (about nine out of 10 patients have insulin resistance) – Being obese (about 50 percent of men and 70 percent of women who have diabetes are obese) – Having a lifestyle that does not involve significant physical activity – Having low HDL ("good") cholesterol levels and high triglyceride levels – Having an increased prevalence of high blood pressure Two symptoms that occur in many people with the disease are increased thirst and frequent urination.
