Israel (Yisroel) Ben Eliezer (en hebreo: רבי ישראל בן אליעזר), también conocido como Baal Shem Tov o Besht, (c. 1698, Okopy, Ucrania-22 de mayo de 1760, Medzhybizh, Ucrania), fue un rabino judío considerado fundador del judaísmo jasídico.

Besht nació en Okopy, una localidad ucraniana pero que a lo largo de la historia ha sido parte de Polonia, Rusia y Galitzia, hijo de Eliezer y Sara. Murió en Medzhybizh, ciudad de Ucrania, pero que formó parte de Lituania, Turquía, Polonia y Rusia.[1]
