A Mauritânia (em árabe: موريتانيا; transl. Mūrītānyā; em berber: Muritanya ou Agawej; em uólofe: Gànnaar; em soninquês: Murutaane; em pulaar: Moritani; em francês: Mauritanie, pronunciado: [moʁitani]), oficialmente República Islâmica da Mauritânia (em árabe: الجمهورية الإسلامية الموريتانية, translit.: al-Jumhūriyyah al-ʾIslāmiyyah al-Mūrītāniyyah) é um país situado no noroeste da África. Situa-se na região do deserto do Saara, e faz fronteira com o oceano Atlântico a oeste, com o Senegal a sudoeste, com o Mali a leste e sudeste, com a Argélia a nordeste e com o Marrocos a noroeste. Recebeu o nome da antiga província romana da Mauritânia, que posteriormente batizou um reino berbere da região. A capital e maior cidade é Nuaquexote, localizada na costa do Atlântico.
A escravidão na Mauritânia ainda existe, apesar de oficialmente abolida por três vezesː 1905, 1981, e de novo em Agosto de 2007. Ativistas antiesclavagismo são perseguidos, presos e torturados.
