Synaptic vesicle
A SECRETORY ORGANELLE, TYPICALLY 50 NM IN DIAMETER, OF PRESYNAPTIC NERVE TERMINALS; ACCUMULATES IN HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF NEUROTRANSMITTERS AND SECRETES THESE INTO THE SYNAPTIC CLEFT BY FUSION WITH THE 'ACTIVE ZONE' OF THE PRESYNAPTIC PLASMA MEMBRANE
Presynaptic vesicle; Neurotransmitter vesicles; Neurotransmitter vesicle; Synaptic vessicle; Neurotransmitter vessicle; Release of neurotransmitters; Synaptic vesicles; Trafficking protein; Readily releasable pool; Recycling pool; Reserve pool; Synaptic vesicle recycling
In a neuron, synaptic vesicles (or neurotransmitter vesicles) store various neurotransmitters that are released at the synapse. The release is regulated by a voltage-dependent calcium channel.
