balanced tree
  • Tree rotations are very common internal operations on self-balancing binary trees to keep perfect or near-to-perfect balance.

<algorithm> An optimisation of a tree which aims to keep equal numbers of items on each subtree of each node so as to minimise the maximum path from the root to any leaf node. As items are inserted and deleted, the tree is restructured to keep the nodes balanced and the search paths uniform. Such an algorithm is appropriate where the overheads of the reorganisation on update are outweighed by the benefits of faster search. A B-tree is a kind of balanced tree that can have more than two subtrees at each node (i.e. one that is not restricted to being a binary tree). (2000-01-10)
Balancing of rotating masses
  • Rotating shaft unbalanced by two identical attached weights, which causes a counterclockwise centrifugal couple ''Cd'' that must be resisted by a clockwise couple ''Fℓ'' = ''Cd'' exerted by the bearings. The figure is drawn from the viewpoint of a frame rotating with the shaft, hence the centrifugal forces.
Balancing vibrations; Balancing Vibrations
The balancing of rotating bodies is important to avoid vibration. In heavy industrial machines such as gas turbines and electric generators, vibration can cause catastrophic failure, as well as noise and discomfort.

Kanithi Balancing Reservoir

Kanithi Balancing Reservoir (KBR) is a reservoir in Ukkunagaram, Visakhapatnam, India. It is the water source for the entire Vizag steel plant and steel plant township.

This large mass of water reservoir is for the captive consumption of the plant and the township alike and sits between the Township and the NH16. It draws its water from a special canal built exclusively for it from the Yeleru River flowing in East Godavari district. The reservoir spans 2.2 km by 2.0 km area with 0.5 Tmcft water storage capacity.

Most of this fresh water consumption in the steel plant can be avoided by recycling the generated effluent water which is drained into the sea.
